SAN DIEGO –  Un barco de la Guardia Costera en San Diego junto con miembros de un buque de guerra de San Diego, interceptaron a un bote con aproximadamente 630 libras de cocaína al este del Océano Pacific.

La Guardia Costera y el buque de guerra USS Curts estaban patrullando cuando detuvieron a los presuntos narcotraficantes en aguas internacionales afuera de la costa de Ecuador el 6 de Octubre.

Al ver a las autoridades, los tripulantes del bote se subieron a pangas que estaban pegadas al bote y en las cuales intentaron huir y empezaron a aventar paquetes al mar.

La Guardia Costera y la Naval desplegaron botes con personal para colectar los paquetes del mar y arrestaron a los 16 presuntos narcotraficantes.

La agencia estima que se confiscó cocaína con un valor estimado de $7 millones.

“Esto es un ejemplo de cómo múltiples agencias de gobierno se unen para enfrentar la amenaza de drogas en contra de los ciudadanos de los Estados Unidos,” dijo el Teniente Max Seda, oficial de operaciones del Equipo Táctico en el Pacifico de la Guardia Costera, basado en San Diego.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A San Diego-based U.S. Coast Guard contingent, along with the crew of a San Diego-based warship, intercepted a fishing vessel carrying about 630 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, the Coast

Guard announced today.

The Coast Guard detachment and the guided missile frigate USS Curts were each on routine patrol when they stopped the cocaine smugglers in international waters off the coast of Ecuador on Oct. 6, according to a U.S. Coast Guard statement.

After spotting the Americans, the crew of the fishing vessel boarded panga boats that were tied to the larger vessel and began dropping bales into the ocean. Boats carrying both Navy and Coast Guard personnel were deployed and

the bales were scooped up and the 16 suspected smugglers arrested, according to the Coast Guard.

The agency estimated the confiscated cocaine had a street worth of $7 million.

“This is an example of how multiple government agencies come together to counter the drug threat against the citizens of the United States,'' said Lt. Max Seda, operations officer of the Coast Guard Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Team.
