SAN DIEGO – El cachorro Panda Gigante del Zoológico de San Diego ya dio algunos pasitos hoy durante su examen veterinario.
 
El veterinario P.K. Robbins explicó que el intento de caminar del Panda de 11 semanas, es similar a “como un bebe se detiene de los muebles.”
 
Agrego que el desarrollo físico del Panda va en acuerdo con su edad.
 
De acuerdo al zoológico, el Panda, que aun no tiene nombre, puede usar sus piernas frontales pero sus piernas traseras aun no son lo suficientemente fuertes para soportar su peso y solamente puede tomar algunos pasitos antes de descansar.
 
Aunque el cachorro podría empezar a caminar completamente en solo semanas, será por lo menos varios meses mas hasta que el Panda pueda ser incluido en la exhibición de Pandas.
 
Por ahora, el publico puede ver al cachorro a través de una cámara “PandaCam” en la pagina Web del zoológico: sandiegozoo.org/pandacam.
 
Solamente se conoce de 1,600 pandas gigantes que viven fuera de cautiverio.
 
El Zoológico de San Diego y otros tres zoológicos alrededor de los Estados Unidos hacen investigaciones con los osos, los cuales están en alquiler de China.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The San Diego Zoo's 11-week-old giant panda took some tentative baby steps today during his weekly veterinary examination.
 
P.K. Robbins, the zoo's senior veterinarian, described the male cub's attempt to walk “like a toddler holding onto the furniture.''
 
The cub's physical development is on track for a panda at his age, she said.
 
According to the zoo, the unnamed cub lunges forward with his front legs, but his rear legs are not yet strong enough to support his weight and he can only take a few steps before he rests.
 
Although he might be able to walk on all four legs in a few weeks, it will be at least a few more months before the cub is mobile enough to be included in the panda exhibit, according to the zoo.
 
For now, the panda cub — the sixth born at the zoo — can be viewed via the PandaCam at sandiegozoo.org/pandacam.
 
Only around 1,600 giant pandas are known the exist in the wild. The San Diego Zoo, and three other zoos around the U.S., conduct research on the bears, which are on loan from their native China.
